Between 1 September 2026 and 31 August 2027, you can get involved in various volunteer positions in German cities and get to know the country, its people and history during seminars and trips!

The voluntary service is organised by the German association Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste (ASF for short). ASF has been campaigning for remembrance, reconciliation and peace for over sixty years, sending over 11,000 volunteers to various partner organisations.

In Germany, around 10 volunteers from different countries around the world work for a year in various project centres. They work in historical, social and cultural projects. The volunteers are closely supervised by their places of assignment and by a programme coordinator from our organisation and supported throughout the year.

  • Volunteer positions: You can find information and links to the advertised placements and partner organisations here: www.asf-ev.de/volunteerservice
  • Seminar programme: Throughout the year, accompanying seminars are held for the international group. Here, the volunteers can contribute their different perspectives and backgrounds. The internationality and diversity enriches the volunteer group. And workshops and excursions offer a wide range of learning experiences.
  • Costs: We provide our volunteers with free accommodation and cover the one-off travel costs for travelling to and from the place of assignment as well as the costs for local public transport during the year. In addition, participants receive a monthly pocket money and food allowance. ASF is a favourable alternative to studying abroad or studying languages and offers more than work and travel or an au pair!
  • Requirements: People between the ages of 18 and 30 can apply. A good knowledge of German is required.
  • Application procedure: Applications can be submitted via our online application tool:

The application deadline is 31 January 2026. If you have problems meeting this deadline please contact our coordinator.

You can find more information about the volunteer programme and apply online here: www.asf-ev.de/volunteerservice
