New Board Elected

As a nonprofit, ASF thrives on the dedication of its members. At their annual meeting, they elected a new board of directors and discussed the activities and financial figures for the past and coming years, as well as several motions.

More than 40 members gathered at the Paul Gerhardt Stift in Berlin the day after the annual conference. In addition to the presentation of the annual report, financial report and budget, this year’s agenda also included the election of a new executive board.

ASF looks back on 2025 as a successful year both programmatically and financially. At the same time, the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East are taking a toll on the volunteer programs; volunteers cannot be sent to Eastern Europe and had to be recalled from Israel. The shift to the right is also having an impact, for example, in the form of uncertainty regarding the issuance of visas for volunteers bound for the U.S.

During the regularly scheduled elections, Vice Chairs Andreas Kroneder and Jakob Stürmann stepped down at their own request after many years of service on the executive board. Words of heartfelt thanks were followed by prolonged applause. In addition to the incumbent board members and Ilse Junkermann as chair, Anja Witzel and Christian Kampen were elected as her new vice chairs. Both had completed volunteer service with ASF in Poland and the Netherlands, respectively. Anja Witzel works in historical and political education and has been with the State Agency for Political Education in Berlin for over 10 years. Christian Kampen has held positions at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), and currently teaches as a lecturer in economics.
